Ferro-Sicilium

Metal

Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is an alloy of silicon and iron. It is produced on the basis of quartz, iron ore, coal, coke and biocoal. The alloy is mainly used as a deoxidizer and as an alloying element in the production of steel and cast iron. For standard specifications, please refer to the data sheet below.

On request, we are also able to supply ferroalloys with deviating specifications, grain sizes and defined secondary values for special applications at any time.

Ferro-manganese

Metal

Ferromanganese alloys are produced by carbothermic reduction of ores containing iron and manganese oxide in a smelting-reduction furnace. During the production process, slags with a high content of manganese oxide are formed, which can be refined in further process steps to ferrosilicon manganese, ferrosilicon manganese, low-carbon ferromanganese (LCFeMn) or to manganese metal. They are used to refine cast iron and steel.

On request, we can also supply ferroalloys with deviating specifications and defined secondary values for special applications at any time.

Copper

Copper

Copper acts as a graphitizing agent in gray pig iron and is usually used in amounts up to 3% to advantageously lower the silicon content, to refine the graphite, to make the matrix tougher, and to achieve uniform microstructure in thin and thick cross sections. The graphitizing effect is about one-fourth as strong as that of silicon. In many respects, the effects of copper are similar to those of nickel.

Aluminum

Metal

Small amounts of aluminum promote deoxidation and thinning. Additions on the order of 1% prevent hardness and reduce impact strength. In amounts up to 0.5%, the metal very much accelerates the formation and growth of graphite, producing soft ferrite and reducing the depth of shrinkage; this effect is lost with higher additions up to about 8%. Between this content and 18%, the carbon is present in bonded form.
