Ferrosilicon

Metall

Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is an alloy of silicon and iron. It is produced from quartz, iron ore, coal, coke, and charcoal. The alloy is mainly used as a deoxidizer and as an alloying element in the production of steel and cast iron. Please refer to the data sheet below for standard specifications.

Upon request, we are also able to supply ferroalloys with deviating specifications, grain sizes, and defined by-values for special applications at any time.

Ferro-Manganese

Metall

Ferromanganese alloys are produced by carbothermic reduction of ores containing iron and manganese oxides in a smelting-reduction furnace. During the production process, slags with a high manganese oxide content are formed, which can be refined in further process steps to ferrosilicomanganese, ferrosilicomanganese, low-carbon ferromanganese (LCFeMn), or manganese metal. They are used for refining cast iron and steel.

Upon request, we are also able to supply ferroalloys with deviating specifications and defined minor components for special applications at any time.

Copper

Kupfer

Copper acts as a graphitizer in gray pig iron and is generally used in amounts up to 3 % in order to advantageously lower the silicon content, refine the graphite, make the matrix tougher, and achieve a uniform structure in thin and thick cross-sections. Its graphitizing effect is about a quarter as strong as that of silicon. In many respects, the effects of copper are similar to those of nickel.

Aluminum

Metall

Small amounts of aluminum promote deoxidation and fluidity. Additions of about 1 %prevent hardening and reduce impact strength. In amounts up to 0.5 %, the metal greatly accelerates the formation and growth of graphite, resulting in softer ferrite and reducing the depth of chill; this effect is lost with higher additions up to about 8 %. Between this content and 18 %, the carbon is present in a combined form.
